28 noviembre 2021.- El futbolista argentino Lionel Messi ganó su séptimo Balón de Oro, el galardón individual más prestigioso que un jugador puede ganar en el fútbol mundial.

Cristiano Ronaldo, que tiene cinco de estos reconocimientos, fue sexto en el ranking.

Messi superó al polaco Robert Lewandowski. Después de que en 2020 no se entregó el premio, el jugador del Bayern Munich se quedó con el premio del mejor delantero del año.

Lionel Messi dijo que Lewandowski merecía el Balón de Oro el año pasado y que France Football, la revista que entrega el premio, debe entregárselo.

Messi este año levantó la ansiada Copa América con Argentina y, tras un periodo turbulento del Barcelona, pasó al PSG. Si bien no pudo celebrar la obtención de la Liga de Campeones o de la liga española, el argentino logró su primer título FIFA con su país, y también tuvo un rendimiento individual preponderante. Fue el goleador de la temporada pasada en España, ganando el Pichichi por octava vez.
