17 octubre 2025.- La ciudad de Arequipa será sede del Campeonato Internacional de Handball, en su novena edición, que se desarrollará del 17 al 19 de octubre en el coliseo de la institución educativa Paolo Frassinetti, ubicada en el distrito de Paucarpata.

Al respecto, Marisol Huachi Sucaticona, administradora del Club Handball Arequipa detalló que llegarán más de 600 deportistas provenientes de Brasil y Chile, además de delegaciones nacionales de Tacna, Lima, Madre de Dios y Arequipa, que competirán en las categorías cadetes e infantil, tanto en damas como en varones.

Por Arequipa participarán los clubes Fleming, Raza, La Salle y, en representación de la provincia de Camaná, el Club Dinastía.

Huachi destacó que el nivel del handball en Arequipa ha mejorado considerablemente en los últimos años. Actualmente, más de 1 200 deportistas practican esta disciplina en la región, varios de los cuales integran la selección nacional.

Asimismo, señaló que este tipo de campeonatos internacionales contribuyen al fortalecimiento y desarrollo del deporte.

Cabe recordar que el handball, o balonmano, es un deporte de equipo en el que dos conjuntos de siete jugadores compiten por lanzar un balón a la portería contraria y marcar goles. El juego se desarrolla en una cancha rectangular y consta de dos tiempos de 30 minutos. Gana el equipo que anote más goles al finalizar el partido.
