20 junio 2025.- El gobernador regional de Arequipa, Rohel Sánchez Sánchez, junto al ministro de Desarrollo Agrario y Riego - MIDAGRI, Ángel Manero Campos, anunciaron a Japón como país ganador de la convocatoria internacional que se realizó en noviembre del año pasado, para la Puesta a Punto del Proyecto Majes Siguas.

Bajo la modalidad de ejecución de Gobierno a Gobierno, la Puesta a Punto del Proyecto Majes Siguas comprende la reparación integral de 88 kilómetros de túneles y 13 kilómetros de canal.

El objetivo es claro: asegurar agua para 23 mil hectáreas en Majes I, culminar la irrigación de 38 mil 500 hectáreas en Majes II e incorporar otras 23 mil hectáreas nuevas en Majes III, sumando 84.5 mil hectáreas para una agricultura moderna y exportadora.

La primera autoridad de Arequipa enfatizó que la intervención de Japón en el proyecto Majes, reafirma el compromiso por la seguridad alimentaria del país y garantiza la ejecución de la nueva ciudad Siguas Vítor para 300 mil viviendas, con la que se dinamizará la economía y generará empleo en Arequipa y el sur del Perú.

Además, reconoció el liderazgo y compromiso del ministro Manero Campos para sacar adelante el proyecto y la decisión política de Palacio de Gobierno para destrabar el Proyecto Majes Siguas, ratificó el pacto regional para transformar Arequipa en un polo del desarrollo del sur del Perú. Asimismo, dio la bienvenida a Japón a la región.

Finalmente, el gobernador de Arequipa agradeció al Consejo Regional de Arequipa, Juntas de Usuarios, Sociedad Agrícola de Arequipa (SADA), Cámara de Comercio e Industria de Arequipa, a las Instituciones de la Sociedad Civil y a todos los ciudadanos que apostaron para que esta obra se haga realidad, sin afectar los activos y tierras del proyecto que seguirán estando a nombre del Gobierno Regional de Arequipa y de hecho ratificando nuestro compromiso con el proceso de descentralización.
